Why Doesn't Bangladesh Get Along With Israel?
15:32 15.11.2023 (Updated: 17:33 15.11.2023) Bangladesh urges all Muslim nations across the world to unite against Israel. It also announced the cancellation of all trade ties with it.
Bangladesh has severed all trade deals with Israel because of it's operation in the Gaza Strip, Bangladesh's foreign minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen was quoted by media as saying.
Expressing support for the cause of the Palestinian people, Bangladesh has called upon the whole Muslim world to boycott Israel at every level.
He said Bangladesh was criminalizing its citizens' trade with Israeli companies and entities. The head of the Foreign Ministry of the Asian state also called upon the whole world, urging every country to boycott Israeli products.
Israel, as Bangladesh was fighting its liberation war in 1971, was one of the first countries to recognize Bangladesh’s independence in 1972. However, Bangladesh responded by rejecting the recognition and banned its citizens from visiting Israel. Bangladesh also said that it won't recognize Israel until an independent Palestinian state is established.
Meanwhile,
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given
five recommendations on the Palestinian cause.
She proposed the suggestions through a recorded speech broadcast at the 8th Extraordinary Islamic Summit a few days ago in Riyadh, saying the following:
There should be an immediate cease of hostilities by Israel.
Borders must open to ensure humanitarian corridors for food supplies.
Killings of innocent civilians in Gaza must be prosecuted.
The UN decisions must be taken into account.
The 'Ummah' must be united on Palestinian cause.
Gaza has been facing bombings by Israel ever since Hamas attack on 7 October. Over 11,000 people have been killed in Gaza alone, the Gaza Strip Health Ministry. Israel has lost over 1,500 people, the Israeli officials reported.
