Bomb Threat at 44 Schools in Bengaluru Prompts Panic Among Parents
In a shocking incident, a total of 44 schools in the city of Bengaluru in India's Karnataka state were thrown into panic and chaos after they received anonymous bomb threats by email on Friday.
Over 5000 children were evacuated after administrative staff received a bomb threat via email, threatening to blow up the sites with explosives.
Bomb squads, aided by sniffer dogs and police officials, thoroughly combed every inch of the school premises in search of the suspected explosive, only to discover that it was nothing more than a hoax threat.
The Bengaluru Police Commissioner, B Dyanand, wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) that efforts are being made to apprehend the culprit behind
hoax threat.
Following the bomb threat, the schools issued an advisory to parents asking them to take their children back home.
"We are encountering an unexpected situation at school today. The school has received a security threat from unknown sources. As we put the safety of our children at utmost priority, we have decided to disperse the students immediately," the advisory read.
Notably, one of the schools was across the street from the residence of Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar.
Shocked by the incident, Siddaramaiah said in a statement and reassured parents and said that some mischief-makers might have done this.
"We will apprehend them within 24 hours. The cybercrime police are actively investigating the matter and are doing their job diligently. In the meantime, we should exercise caution and not neglect our cybersecurity measures," he added.
