Outrage has erupted online after the Spanish fashion brand Zara sparked controversy with an ad campaign that some say mocks the suffering faced by the Palestinian people.
Zara unveiled its latest ad campaign, titled "The Jacket", on Sunday, featuring model Kristen McMenamy posing alongside mannequins draped in crisp white fabric and plastic.
Netizens argued that the image bore a resemblance to photographs showing the aftermath of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
The campaign titled 'The Jacket' was intended to
highlight the garment's versatility.
The other pictures in the campaign show a model inside a wooden box.
Social media users condemned the campaign and images and expressed their anger by vowing to boycott the brand.
“Using death and destruction as a backdrop for fashion is beyond sinister, its complicity [...] should outrage us as consumers. Boycott Zara,” Palestinian artist Hazem Harb wrote on social media.
"My jaw dropped seeing this. Boycott for life. You are disgusting demons. I can't believe what I'm looking at," another user wrote.
Many social media users called the image "beyond disgusted."
"Do you think that 20,000 people are killed, and it is normal for you to use their deaths as a marketing method? Don't come out and say
you didn't mean to... disgusting," reads another comment.
