India & Oman Discuss Gaza, Support Two-State Solution
India and Oman have signed five agreements to enhance information technology collaboration and combat financial crime during the Omani Sultan leader visit to New Delhi.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq have in Delhi discussed the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip and emphasised the need for a two-state solution for the Palestine-Israel conflict.
The sultan is Oman's first head of state to travel to India in 26 years. Following Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said's passing in 2020, who had last visited Delhi in 1997, he assumed the position.
The
sultan of Oman held formal talks with Modi on Saturday in Hyderabad, having arrived a day earlier.
"Given the developments in West Asia in terms of what's happening there, in terms of multiple challenges that the ongoing conflict in Gaza has thrown up, that was an important element of discussions between the two leaders", Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra stated at a press conference following the discussions.
The two leaders were dedicated to the "larger need to find and try and achieve
a two-state solution as a way forward", according to the foreign secretary.
