The Russian top diplomat held his annual press conference at the press centre of the Foreign Ministry's building in Moscow on Thursday.
Dialogue between Russia and India has reached unprecedented heights, with ongoing communication between both nations taking place through their ministries, Russia's foreign policy chief, Sergey Lavrov, said on Thursday.
"Our relations of strategic and privileged partnership with India are consistently developing. We maintain regular contacts at the highest level. We also have contacts between our foreign policy departments and other ministries and agencies," Lavrov told a press conference covering the results of Russia's diplomacy in 2023.
Lavrov Hopes Iran-Pakistan Flare-Up Won't Complicate Work on Afghanistan
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said that he hopes that the escalation of tensions between Iran and Pakistan would not complicate international efforts to resolve the ongoing situation in Afghanistan.
"We have not lost touch with what is happening, not even for a second, and [we] are now in contact with the de-facto leadership [of Afghanistan]. This enables us to work, among other things, towards promoting external frameworks that allow us to facilitate recommendations for the Afghans. This is the 'Moscow format,' and there is the 'quartet' of Russia, China, Pakistan, and Iran," he said.
The Taliban are controlling the situation in Afghanistan, and Russia maintains regular contacts with them, the diplomacy chief said.
"We have regular contacts with the Taliban, including on those issues that need to be resolved in order for them to become a fully recognised government," the minister specified.
Here are more takeaways from Lavrov’s presser:
️The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, like the Eurasian Economic Union, is an umbrella system that creates opportunities for equitable multipolar cooperation;
BRICS symbolizes the wealth of the multipolar world. As the current chair of BRICS, Russia supports other nations’ endeavours to join;
The policy of neocolonialism is maintained by the US and its allies. It is the general idea of exploiting other countries in the West's own interests and to live off them;
Establishing a Palestinian state remains the main condition for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict;
Ukraine’s Zelensky is clinging to power as much as possible, but the West will compel Kiev to become more accommodating;
There is no 'hope' that Russia will somehow be defeated.
