Iran and Pakistan had agreed to de-escalate tension after both countries exchanged air strikes reportedly targeting militants. However, the tension between the countries seems to have a cascading impact on Pakistan.
Pakistan has witnessed a decline of almost 50 percent in flights through its airspace.
According to media reports quoting aviation sources in Pakistan, only 450 flights used the country’s airspace on Thursday - while the number normally oscilates around 700-750 flights.
The sources further told the media that the airlines pay the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in dollars to use Pakistani airspace and the decline will have a negative impact on the country’s revenue.

“All flights using Pakistani airspace were monitored under standard operating procedures. There were no restrictions on air traffic from any direction using Pakistani airspace,” the CAA said in a statement.

Tension between the two countries escalated after Iran carried out an air strike in a village in Panjgur district of Balochistan on Tuesday night.
Retaliating to the Iranian air strike, Pakistan conducted precision strikes reportedly on militant targets inside Iran on Thursday.
Following the exchange of air strikes, both countries recalled their envoys, raising concerns about the potential closure of the border.
