Bomb Blasts Rock Pakistan's Pishin & Qilla Saifullah Districts Killing 20: Reports
The twin blasts were intended to terrorize the candidates running in the elections, as they occurred where election-related activities were taking place.
Hours before Pakistan was due to go to the polls to elect its new government, two bomb blasts in the country's Pishin and Qilla Saifullah districts on Wednesday claimed at least 20 lives and injured scores of others, according to reports.
The bomb attack in Pishin targeted the election campaign office of independent candidate Asfandyar Khan Kakar while a blast took place in Qilla Saifullah occurred right outside the election office of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) (JUI-F).
The
death toll could rise as some of the wounded were in serious condition, police officials told the media. The attacks came as political parties were wrapping up campaigning ahead of tomorrow's
elections, they added.
Meanwhile, political leaders denounced the attacks, saying they were an attempt by "enemies of the country" to create instability.
The areas affected by the explosions have been cordoned off and the injured have been taken to nearby medical facilities, they announced.
