US Hypocrisy in Pakistan: Covert Regime Change & Imran Khan's Unjust Imprisonment
The assertions, made by former PM Imran Khan regarding US involvement in the downfall of his government, have raised significant doubts about Pakistan's dedication to democratic principles and fair country’s elections.
The incarceration of Imran Khan, a prominent PTI leader, and the crackdown on PTI political workers have clouded the political landscape, seemingly confirming Khan's assertions.
The
US's alleged role in orchestrating the removal of Prime Minister Imran Khan, followed by his arrest on charges of corruption and espionage, leading to a 10-year, 15-year, and seven year prison sentence in various cases, has ignited concerns regarding
foreign intervention in Pakistan's political affairs.
The timing of these events, just prior to the upcoming elections on February 8, has fueled suspicions of hidden agendas aimed at thwarting the return of Pakistan's popular leader to power. These developments have prompted a closer examination of US foreign policy and its impact on democratic processes in Pakistan.
US Hypocrisy and Covert Regime Change
It can be seen that Imran Khan's criticism of Western pressure to condemn
Russia over
Ukraine may have contributed to his downfall, as covert regime change is a known tool of U.S. foreign policy as per
media reports.
"Certainly, much of this would not be possible without the support of the US. The US's silence regarding human rights violations and the overthrowing of democratic governments is quite evident," Dr Aamna Khan, a Qatar-based Political analyst told Sputnik News.
However, the success of covert operations lies in their secrecy, allowing the US government to deny involvement. Even when evidence surfaces through whistleblowers or leaks, the government dismisses it, and
mainstream media often overlook the story to align with the official narrative.
"No one denies the fact that it is the US and Pakistani establishments working against Imran Khan, while these establishments, along with corrupt parties, are mutually serving each other in this cycle," Dr Farooq Chughtai, an Assist-Professor, a Researcher, & Political analyst, told Sputnik News.
He further unveiled, "In this entire scenario, our establishment plays a pivotal role because Imran Khan is not in favor of American interference in the region, but our establishment is working to keep the US satisfied."
"It is a fact that regime change is not unfamiliar in countries like Pakistan with fragile democracies. Despite the US expressing concern over electoral malpractices worldwide, Pakistan's 2024 general elections are widely seen as manipulated," a political analyst, & Professor, Dr. Uzma Siraj, told Sputnik that ultimately, tomorrow's general election result will reflect a combination of internal political maneuvering and external US involvement.
US Meddling and Internal Struggle: The Covert Geo-Political Game in Pakistan
Undoubtedly, it can be said that the U.S. has a history of involvement in the politics of other countries, from
Taiwan to
Bangladesh,
Afghanistan to
Syria,
Iraq to Pakistan. Behind these geopolitical tactics, the U.S. aims to control the policies, politics, alliances, and decisions of other states, as revealed by the former PM Imran Khan.
"Unfortunately, Pakistan has remained a battleground for many external players, contributing to the weakness of its democracy," Dr Aamna Khan, a Qatar-based Political analyst told Sputnik News.
The crackdown on Khan and his party serves as a clear example of this, especially after Khan's visit to
Moscow and his stance on
Russia and Ukraine, challenging the U.S. by
refusing to participate in its proxy wars. As a result,
Khan is now in jail, his party symbol has been taken away, party leaders have been killed, and party activities have been disrupted, raising concerns about the democratic process in Pakistan.
"In this entire scenario, our establishment plays a pivotal role because Imran Khan is not in favor of American interference in the region, but our establishment is working to keep the US satisfied. The Pakistan Muslim League (N) PML(N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are both against Khan and his party, aiming to remove PTI from elections and politics. Essentially, these parties seek to quash the corruption cases against them that were exposed by Imran Khan," Dr. F. Chughtai, a Political analyst, further expressed to Sputnik News.
