During the press conference, Lavrov emphasized the control exerted from abroad in directing the conflict's strategy, highlighting Ukraine's economic struggles over the past decade and criticizing its leadership as internationally recognized beggars."The role that the United Kingdom plays in current events is even more aggressive, more sophisticated in its provocative assertiveness than of any other participant, including even the United States," he added. He also criticized the superficiality of discussions on the topic, citing an instance at Davos where the focus seemed to be more on a group photo than substantive dialogue. Additionally, Lavrov raised concerns about the European Union's recommendation to arm Ukraine with long-range weapons, warning of the potential consequences. Highlighting the presence of mercenaries in Ukraine, Lavrov implicated the involvement of groups like IS (Daesh*), alleging their training and patronage by the US at the illegal At-Tanf base in Syria. He criticized the recruitment of mercenaries by Ukraine through official government channels, noting disillusionment among some British and American mercenaries with Ukraine's regime and democratic values. *Daesh (IS/ISIS/ISIL) is a terrorist organization banned in Russia and other states.

Lavrov Weighs in on West's Ukraine Strategy, Zelensky’s ‘Peace Formula’ & Mercenaries
15:34 16.02.2024 (Updated: 15:36 16.02.2024) On February 16, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended the conference "Euromaidan: Ukraine's Lost Decade" in Moscow. The event focuses on the economic and political conditions of events in Ukraine in 2013-2014 and the preparation of the so-called Euromaidan unrest
During the press conference, Lavrov emphasized the control exerted from abroad in directing the conflict's strategy, highlighting Ukraine's economic struggles over the past decade and criticizing its leadership as internationally recognized beggars.
"In the last decade, Ukraine has become the poorest nation in Europe and the authorities in Kiev have turned into internationally recognised beggars," Lavrov said.
"The role that the United Kingdom plays in current events is even more aggressive, more sophisticated in its provocative assertiveness than of any other participant, including even the United States," he added.
Regarding Zelensky's peace initiative, Lavrov dismissed it as lacking substance and suggested it was merely a ploy by the West to garner support.
He also criticized the superficiality of discussions on the topic, citing an instance at Davos where the focus seemed to be more on a group photo than substantive dialogue.
"Do you know what the main interest was at the discussion of Zelensky's peace formula in Davos? The group picture. Just to make it look nice," he said.
