India to Launch Chandrayaan-4 in 2028 to Bring Rocks From Moon

Following the triumph of Chandrayaan-3 last year, Indian space agency has suggested that India's forthcoming lunar mission will center on acquiring moon soil for analysis on Earth. If this endeavor proves successful, Chandrayaan-4 will place India in an exclusive group, making it the fourth nation to retrieve samples from the lunar surface.
Chandrayaan-4 is expected to be launched in 2028 and is also called the LUPEX mission, Dr. Nilesh Desai of ISRO's Space Applications Centre (SAC) told Indian media on Wednesday.
“In this mission, the landing will be similar to Chandrayaan-3, but the Central Module will return after docking with the Orbital Module. The orbiting module will later separate near Earth's atmosphere, and the re-entry module will return with the samples of the Moon's soil and rock. It's a very ambitious mission and hopefully in the next five to seven years we will be able to meet the challenge of returning samples from the lunar surface," said Desai."
Last October, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that ISRO would not only aim to put the first Indian on the Moon by 2040, but also to establish a "Bharatiya Antariksha Station" (Indian Space Station) by 2035.
ISRO has not yet announced the estimated budget for the Chandrayaan-4 mission.
