The Agni-5 missile, an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with a range of 5,500 to 5,800 kilometers, represents a significant advancement in India's strategic defense capabilities.
India achieved a resounding success with the monumental testing of Mission Divyastra - the first flight test of the indigenously developed Agni-5 missile, showcasing its groundbreaking Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology.
MIRV technology empowers warheads to split into multiple re-entry vehicles, allowing for precise and targeted attacks. As a result, a single missile becomes capable of delivering multiple warheads.
India has officially joined the exclusive league of nations possessing Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle (MIRV) capability with the latest test.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, took to X (formerly known as Twitter), to hail Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists for the monumental victory.

This cutting-edge system reportedly features indigenous avionics systems and high-precision sensor packages, ensuring the re-entry vehicles precisely hit their target points.

Until the launch of Agni-5, India's longest-range missile was the Agni-III, with a range of up to 3,500 kilometers, which was insufficient to cover the far eastern and northeastern regions of potential adversaries.
The Agni-5 missile has the capability to reach almost all of Asia, boasting the longest range in the history of India's weapons programme.
