Media Hypes 'Nuclear War Threats' While Misinterpreting Putin's Statement
20:04 14.03.2024 (Updated: 16:20 15.03.2024) Media publications, including a few in India, have distorted Vladimir Putin's comments on the use of nuclear weapons, alleging that Russia was ready to fire off nuclear warheads at Western nations.
In an exclusive interview with Rossiya Segodnya's Director General Dmitry Kiselev broadcast on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin clearly stated that Russia was ready to use any kind of weapon if the existence of the Russian state is at stake, if Russian sovereignty and independence are at stake.
"There has never been need for use of tactical nuclear weapons in special operation area," Putin said during the interview.
As the interview made international headlines, media publications were yet again viewed as distorting the context of Putin's comments as they
resorted to the usual warmongering ways.
No Threat to Use Nuclear Weapons Were Made: Kremlin
Kremlin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov has slammed the distorted media reports.
"No threats to use nuclear weapons were made," Peskov said.
The Kremlin spokesman highlighted that
Putin spoke about the "reasons that could make the use of nuclear weapons inevitable, and these are laid out in the relevant documents and are well known all over the world".
"The West deliberately omitted Putin's remarks that the use of tactical nuclear weapons had never occurred to him, despite the various situations in the conflict zone. This is a deliberate distortion of the context and an unwillingness to listen to President Putin," Peskov stated.
Meanwhile, an Indian military veteran has told Sputnik India that the West should fully grasp Putin's warning as to
what could force Russia's hand into the potential use of tactical nukes in Ukraine.
"President Putin's statement needs a lot of understanding by the NATO forces and the US. At this particular juncture, neither NATO or the US is capable of militarily taking on Russia in case of a western intervention in Ukraine. This is because of the largest inventory of a diverse and rapidly modernising nuclear stockpile possessed by Russia," said Lieutenant Colonel JS Sodhi.
