The US refusing to give respite to Pakistan while the latter continues to tackle a bad economy shows how unconcerned Washington is for allies that have supported it during difficult times.
The US, which considers Pakistan one of its strategic partners, has once again been exposed for its double standards as it has threatened the latter with sanctions if Islamabad decides to continue with the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project.
The US has refused to provide any support to Pakistan on the issue, saying there would be tough sanctions if Islamabad gets into any business with Tehran.
“We always advise everyone that doing business with Iran runs the risk of touching upon and coming in contact with our sanctions, and would advise everyone to consider that very carefully,” a US State Department spokesperson told reporters in a press briefing.
“We do not support this pipeline going forward,” the spokesperson added.
However, the US has on numerous occasions described Pakistan as one of its closest allies and a partner in the fight against terrorism.
