India & Russia Partner to Produce Medical Supplies Locally
The authorities of Sakhalin Oblast, one of Russia's largest islands rich in natural gas and oil reserves, are actively seeking to attract Indian companies, particularly pharmaceutical firms, to set up shop in their region.
The Indian pharmaceutical company, PSK Biotech Private Limited, and the Governor of Sakhalin Oblast, Valery Limarenko, from Russia, have signed an agreement to initiate the localized production on Sakhalin Island, the official said in a statement.
The first production in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is scheduled to start as early as November 2024, where it will manufacture diapers, personal hygiene products, and other medical supplies.
According to officials, the launch of this initiative will significantly reduce the region's reliance on imported assistive technology devices and tools, and also shorten the delivery time to people with disabilities.
The Governor has emphasised that Sakhalin, with its skilled workforce and strong logistical capabilities, can serve as an ideal platform for
Indian pharmaceutical businesses to enter Far Eastern and Russian markets. This vision is in line with the strategy to develop ports and air transport infrastructure.
With an intent to
establish a long-term presence in the Russian market, Prabind Singh, the Business Development Director of PSK Biotech Private Limited, said that in addition to producing hygiene products and veterinary medicines, his company specialises in applied IT technologies in medicine, which could be another area of cooperation with Sakhalin.
