The Sakhalin authorities in Russia's Far East are striving to attract Indian companies, particularly those involved in pharmaceuticals, to their region.
Sakhalin officials, while visiting India, agreed to establish a direct partnership between the region's pharmaceutical firms and Indian companies, Sakhalin Governor Valery Limarenko said.

"Together with the authorities and businesses of the republic [of India] we discussed the issues of strengthening economic and cultural ties with the Sakhalin region. For example, India is one of the world leaders in the production of medicines. Many of them can be found on the Russian market. We agreed to establish direct cooperation between the republic's pharmaceutical companies and the island region [of Sakhalin]," Limarenko wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to the governor, this will not only avert any potential shortage of medications, but also allow individuals to choose from various manufacturers from different countries with distinct pricing policies. Moreover, the parties also addressed attracting Indian businesses to set up manufacturing facilities to produce medicine in Sakhalin.
The head of the Sakhalin region emphasized that, despite the collective West's efforts, Russia has preserved its relations with most of the countries it has historically been on good terms with, including India.

"In the upcoming months, Indian business will pay a return visit to the Sakhalin Oblast, where discussions on creating manufacturing facilities for medicines will be continued. We plan to consolidate our intentions with relevant agreements," Limarenko concluded.
