Alexei Likhachev, the chief of Russia's state-run nuclear power corporation Rosatom, has stated that more nuclear power plants are set to be established in Bangladesh with the Eurasian nation's assistance.Interestingly, his comments come months ahead of Bangladesh's big breakthrough in the nuclear power sector. The first power unit of its Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), having two nuclear reactors with an overall capacity of 2400 megawatts, will become operational in December 2024.The Rooppur NPP is being largely financed by Russia, with nearly 90 percent of funding for the $12.65 billion project coming from lenders based there. In addition to that, the VVER-1200 reactors that are being built in Rooppur, have been successfully operationalized in Russia's Novovoronezh NPP.

Rosatom's Ambitious Bangladesh Mission: CEO Vows More Nuclear Power Plants to Come
17:37 02.04.2024 (Updated: 18:02 02.04.2024) Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant, located in Rooppur, approximately 160 kilometers from the country's capital Dhaka is set to become operational later this year. It is being built with Russian assistance.
Alexei Likhachev, the chief of Russia's state-run nuclear power corporation
Rosatom, has stated that more nuclear power plants are set to be established in Bangladesh
with the Eurasian nation's assistance.
"Of course, the general scheme of Bangladesh's power generation development implies not only one nuclear power plant and not only two 1,200 megawatt power units. There will definitely be new power plants behind the first two Russian units. There are certain agreements, we will work on them, we will meet regularly," Likhachev told Russian media.
Interestingly, his comments come months ahead of Bangladesh's big breakthrough in the nuclear power sector.
The first power unit of its Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), having two nuclear reactors with an overall capacity of 2400 megawatts, will become operational in December 2024.
The Rooppur NPP is being largely financed by Russia, with nearly 90 percent of funding for the $12.65 billion project coming from lenders based there.
