ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) - St. Petersburg and India have the potential to expand cooperation in industry, pharmaceuticals, digital technology and shipbuilding, the Russian city's governor Alexander Beglov said.
“Today we have the potential to expand cooperation in digital technology, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, light industry, shipbuilding, electrical equipment, and food industry,” he said.
Beglov, who on Thursday had a working meeting with Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar, said that in 2023, bilateral trade more than doubled.
"Relations between our countries, despite all the challenges, are developing steadily and in a multifaceted way. St. Petersburg has always played an important role in cooperation between Russia and India. We are seeing a significant increase in economic cooperation. Last year, trade turnover between St. Petersburg and India more than doubled," the governor said.
He said St. Petersburg is known in India as an important center of military and civil shipbuilding. St. Petersburg shipyards have repeatedly fulfilled government orders from India.
“Today our large power engineering enterprises are actively cooperating with India. They are participating in the implementation of key projects in your country," Beglov said, adding that these include the construction of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.
