PM Modi’s Russia Visit to Be Highly Significant: Indian Envoy
19:52 07.07.2024 (Updated: 19:57 07.07.2024) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on his two-day visit to Russia on Monday where he will be meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin and also interact with Indian diaspora on Tuesday.
India’s Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar has termed the two-day visit of PM Narendra Modi to Russia as “very significant” noting the fact that it taking place after a gap of three years.
“We have the tradition of the annual exchange of summit-level meetings between the President of the Russian Federation and the Prime Minister of India and the last one was in 2021. So, since then, a lot has changed around the world, but also our relations have expanded,” Kumar said while responding to question on importance of
Indian Prime Minister’s visit.
He further stated that both the leaders will talk about developments in bilateral ties and discuss other regional issues of mutual interest.
“Russia is now one of the very important sources of energy resources in India. Also, trade has expanded in other areas. So this visit becomes very important for the leaders to exchange views on all these developments in the bilateral relationship,” the Indian Envoy said.
He, however, refrained from talking in detail about the issues to be discussed between Modi and Putin as he said that he is in no position to prejudge what will be the agenda of the meeting.
It will be
22nd India-Russia Annual Bilateral Summit as the last one was held in December 2021 in New Delhi.
It will also be Modi’s first visit to Russia ever since country’s special military operation in Ukraine.
