An assistant professor at the Center for Russian Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, highlighted the importance of the Russian language for strengthening India-Russia relations.
The relationship between India and Russia has been longstanding and strong, despite the changing global order, which is developing at the Dialogue discussion on ‘Preservation of cultural heritage as a factor of strengthening statehood’ in Vladimir city on 19 July.
India and Russia, apart from trade, share a strong cultural bond, Dr. Sonu Saini, an assistant professor at the Center for Russian Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), told Sputnik India.

"The Russian language is becoming very popular. It was very popular in the last century, but after the fall, there was a break in its learning. However, in the last 15 years, the interest in learning Russian is increasing, and there are 350 students who are learning it at JNU for graduation, masters and PhD," he said.

Dr. Saini said that there are many perspectives and people who are learning the language find themselves working as interpreters and researchers in various organizations like BRICS or SCO, and other think tanks. Moreover, due to medical tourism boom in India, patients from 15 Russian speaking coiuntries come and require assistance of the proffesionals, he stated, adding that perspectives are increasing amid the developing relations between the two partnering countries.
The assistant professor highlighted that the popularity of Russian will expand in coming years and opined that there will be a huge demand of the linguistics experts in future.

"The interest of students willing to learn Russian is increasing. The recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia has also drawn the attention of all the Indians that Russia is the country with which we are having a good and prospective relation, which is going to get stronger day by day," he said.

The International Discussion Club, Dialogue, was established in November 2022. It quickly gained the status of a global platform for promotion of socio-economic, humanitarian, scientific, educational and cultural issues.
The aim of the club is to exchange experience and strengthen strategic partnerships between countries of Global South. This year, it organized an event to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the Russian Suzdal.
