Taliban Hopes for Improved US Ties to Gain Recognition: Official
18:16 07.11.2024 (Updated: 18:44 07.11.2024) DOHA (Sputnik) – The Taliban* hopes that improved relations with the US will lead to recognition of Afghan authorities, Suhail Shaheen, the head of the Taliban political office in Qatar, told Sputnik.
"We hope to make progress and improve relations between both countries, which would lead to recognition. We want normal relations with America and we want them with other countries," Shaheen said.
Afghanistan expects the United States to unblock its assets during the presidency of Donald Trump, who has won the 2024 election.
"We want the assets of the Bank of Afghanistan to be unfrozen because a large part of them belong to ordinary people. They invested their money in private banks, private banks deposited it in the Bank of Afghanistan, and the Bank of Afghanistan transferred it to New York," Shaheen stressed.
