India Signs Over 250 Memos to Build Defence Industry Facilities: MoD
BENGALURU (Sputnik) - India has signed more than 250 memorandums on the construction of industrial facilities in the defence industrial corridors in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday.
"We have also established two defence industrial corridors in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. So far, more than 250 agreements have been signed for the establishment of industrial units in the two corridors," Singh said at the Aero India 2025 international expo in Bengaluru.
The minister urged international defence firms to take interest in the project, adding that the Indian government has allowed 75% foreign direct investment for companies seeking defence licenses under automatic mode, while 100% foreign direct investment will be allowed with government approval.
"In this regard, a total of 46 joint ventures and companies have been given foreign investment approval in the defence sector till date," he said.
As the nature of modern warfare changes rapidly, players in the global defence industry need to constantly make and improve their decisions, Singh said. The extensive use of drones in recent conflicts indicates that the future will depend on the integrated efforts of manned, unmanned and autonomous combat systems, he added.
The Aerospace Exhibition Aero India 2025 is taking place at the Yelahanka Air Force Station in the city of Bangalore from Monday to Friday.
