MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russia advocates resuming dialogue on the Iranian nuclear deal in the format approved by the UN Security Council, which involved Russia, the United States, China, France, Germany, the UK and Iran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.
"We discussed the joint comprehensive action program on the Iran nuclear issue. We are in favor of restoring the original program from which the Americans dropped during the first Trump government. There are some contacts on the European side. We would be in favor of resuming the format which developed the original deal endorsed by the Security Council [which is France, Germany, UK, US, Russia, China] and Iran," Lavrov said in an interview with US bloggers Andrew Napolitano, Larry Johnson and Mario Nawfal.
At the same time, Lavrov expressed concern that there were some signs the Americans would like the new deal to come with political conditions under which Iran would be required to undergo checks to ensure that it does not support groups in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria or elsewhere.
"I don't think it's realistic," the minister added.
