Myanmar was struck by another earthquake, registering a magnitude of 4.5, according to a statement issued by India’s National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The quake, which occurred at a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers, has raised fresh concerns over potential aftershocks and further damage.
Seismologists warn that shallow earthquakes can be more destructive than deeper ones, as they release energy closer to the Earth’s surface, resulting in more intense ground vibrations and a higher likelihood of structural damage.
This latest tremor comes just weeks after a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Myanmar in late March, killing at least 2,700 people and affecting more than 3,400 others.
In a coordinated regional response, a specialist team of Indian Army Engineers arrived in Myanmar on April 6 under Operation Brahma, following a formal request for assistance by the Myanmar government.
Russia has also stepped in with large-scale support. According to the Russian Emergency Ministry, 264 rescuers have been deployed to assist in relief operations
BANGKOK, THAILAND - MARCH 29: Rescuers try to enter the rubble to search for survivors, as dozens of people are believed to have been trapped in the rubble of a collapsed high-rise building that was still under construction, after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck neighbouring country Myanmar, in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 29, 2025. The powerful earthquake that happened on March 28 has brought catastrophic damages to the two countries, killing at least 144 in Myanmar and at least 10 in Thailand, making it one of the deadliest earthquakes in recent years.
