India will support an increase in Russian oil imports to its domestic market, India's Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar told Russian media.
"This issue is primarily about market conditions, pricing, and logistics. Our role is to facilitate this arrangement [of purchasing Russian oil] by securing agreements on freight, establishing new maritime corridors, and ensuring that Indian importers and Russian exporters find it viable and commercially beneficial to maintain a trade relationship that has been vital to the growth of our bilateral turnover. So yes, we will continue to support the further import of Russian oil into the Indian market," the ambassador said.
He also noted that some Indian companies have already signed long-term contracts for oil imports with Russian partners. "So the intent is there, and the market conditions and logistics are making it possible to realise significant volumes," the diplomat concluded.
