Russia wants peace, but if Kiev continues to be guided by the national interests of other countries, Moscow will be forced to respond, Russia's chief negotiator, Vladimir Medinsky, has said.
"We want peace," Medinsly said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal newspaper, noting that "if Ukraine keeps being driven by the national interests of others, then we will be simply forced to respond."
It is impossible to wage a long war with Russia, Medinsky said, recalling Russia's 21-year war with Sweden in the 18th century as a proof that Russia always win in protracted wars.
"This conflict sadly deepens our differences, and that’s why we want it to end as soon as possible," the chief negotiator added.
