The construction of the pipeline began in 2015 in Turkmenistan. According to the project, the gas pipeline will pass through the Afghan cities of Herat and Kandahar, the Pakistani cities of Quetta and Multan and reach the Fazilka point on the Indian-Pakistani border.

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and acting Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan Abdul Ghani Baradar discussed the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement Thursday.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan.
