Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev, who is also the Russian special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, underlined the achievements of the BRICS countries, said that "the Global South has risen."
"BRICS now accounts for: ~40% of global GDP (PPP) (G7 is less than 29%), over 50% of global GDP growth, over 45% of world population. The Global South has risen," Dmitriev said on X.
The seventeenth BRICS summit is held in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7. The Russian delegation, which went to Brazil, was headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Since 2024, BRICS includes, in addition to the founding countries, Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, Iran, and, since January 2025, Indonesia. Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam cooperate with the bloc as partners.
