The Russian-built Indian frigate Tamal has arrived in St. Petersburg to participate in events to mark Russian Navy Day, the Russian Defense Ministry's Department of Information and Mass Communications reported.
Russian Navy Day is celebrated annually on the last Sunday of July. In 2025, it will be July 27.
"On July 24, 2025, the Indian Navy frigate Tamal arrived in St. Petersburg for Navy Day," the report said.
It was noted that the Indian ship moored next to the Russian Guards corvette Soobrazitelny on Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment. The frigate was met by representatives of the Navy General Command and the Leningrad Naval Base.
The visit of "Tamal" is carried out in accordance with the program of international military cooperation and is aimed at developing partnership relations between the fleets of the two countries. The crews of the ships will hold a number of joint events. Indian sailors will visit the sights of St. Petersburg and the wreath-laying ceremony at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery.
On Navy Day, the ships will raise flags of coloring, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The frigate "Tamal" is the eighth ship of the series built in Russia for the Indian Navy.
The frigate is capable of countering any threats. It is equipped with an advanced air defense system with the "Shtil-1" anti-aircraft complex, artillery mounts and electronic warfare equipment to protect against drones and unmanned boats.
