Russia and India are intensifying their cooperation in the financial sector, with a particular focus on aligning payment systems and banking cards, as well as fostering smoother financial interactions between the two nations. This was highlighted by Denis Alipov, Russia's Ambassador to India, in a recent statement.
In his address, Alipov emphasised that the bilateral collaboration extends beyond merely using national currencies in trade and economic relations. The two countries are also working on integrating their payment systems and banking infrastructure to ensure seamless financial interactions.
"These efforts aim at creating a more efficient, barrier-free environment for financial exchanges between Russia and India," said Alipov.
He also mentioned that the issue of using national currencies for transactions is particularly important due to the existing imbalance in bilateral trade.
The topic of economic relations between Russia and India will also take center stage during the upcoming Russian-Indian summit, which is expected to be held in 2025. Alipov confirmed that the two nations are actively working to finalise the specific dates for the summit, which will take place in New Delhi.
"Before the end of the year, we have several major bilateral events planned, both in Russia and in India, including the president's visit. I won’t specify the exact date as it’s not my prerogative; it will be announced in due course by the president's administration. I can say that we are currently in an active phase of coordinating specific dates," said the Russian ambassador to Indian journalists.
