Indo-Russian joint venture company is targeting mid-2026 for its maiden export order of AK-203 rifles that are built at the firm's plant in the Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh, the enterprise's CEO and Managing Director, Major General S.K. Sharma, has said.Besides, the AK-203 has drawn interest from India's Special Forces. Also, he revealed that in addition to the Indian Army's contract for over 600,000 AK-203 rifles, many state and central armed police forces have evinced interest in acquiring the widely-acclaimed firearm from IRRPL.It is worth highlighting that IRRPL's plans do not just stop at the AK-203 rifle, as the JV is looking to ramp up its production capacity to manufacture other small arms at its factory in India's northern state.Next phase here symbolises the doubling of production capacity at the IRRPL by December 2025.Currently, the company manufactures approximately 300 rifles per day. However, there are plans in place to increase this to 600 units in a day, which would mean that the firm would manufacture a rifle in about 100 seconds.

The Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL), the manufacturer of the AK-203 assault rifles is looking to produce a fully indigenous rifle by the end of this year.
Indo-Russian joint venture company is targeting mid-2026 for its maiden export order of AK-203 rifles that are built at the firm's plant in the Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh, the enterprise's CEO and Managing Director, Major General S.K. Sharma, has said.
"We target to have the first export by mid-2026. Maximum interest has emerged from the Middle East and North African Region. Some interest from SE Asia and South Asia too," Sharma told Sputnik India in an exclusive interview on Tuesday.
Besides, the AK-203 has drawn interest from India's Special Forces.
Also, he revealed that in addition to the Indian Army's contract for over 600,000 AK-203 rifles, many state and central armed police forces
have evinced interest in acquiring the widely-acclaimed firearm from IRRPL.
"Close to 15 agencies, including the Paramilitary Forces (PMF), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), 10 state police forces and some special forces have shown interest," Sharma stated.
It is worth highlighting that IRRPL's plans do not just stop at the AK-203 rifle, as the JV is looking to ramp up its production capacity to manufacture other small arms at its factory in India's northern state.
"In the next phase, we are looking at AK-19 and PPK-20 to be made in India by IRRPL," Sharma emphasised.
Next phase here symbolises the doubling of
production capacity at the IRRPL by December 2025.
Currently, the company manufactures approximately 300 rifles per day. However, there are plans in place to increase this to 600 units in a day, which would mean that the firm would manufacture a rifle in about 100 seconds.
