White House Accuses India of 'Financing' Ukraine Conflict
The White House has stirred fresh controversy by accusing India of indirectly financing the Ukraine conflict through its continued imports of Russian oil.
The remarks came from Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff to President Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox Business, where he stated that Trump believes India's actions are "unacceptable."
"India portrays itself as our closest friend. But it doesn't accept our products. India cheats on immigration and buys Russian oil, which is unacceptable," Miller said.
India, the world’s third-largest oil consumer, imports over 80% of its crude needs, sourcing supplies from more than 30 countries, including Russia.
Despite international pressure, India has consistently defended its right to pursue affordable energy options, stressing that its trade with Moscow is based on national interests and commercial viability.
While Washington criticises India for allegedly "funding" the Ukraine conflict, the US itself is the largest financial and military backer of Ukraine, funneling billions of dollars into the conflict.
