The Russia-US summit is expected to begin at 07:00 PM GMT on August 15 at Alaska’s Elmendorf-Richardson military base. How will it go?
Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will start with a one-on-one meeting with interpreters, followed by inter-delegation talks.
Both will make brief opening remarks.
After the discussions, Putin and Trump may hold a joint press conference.

Key Focus

The resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
Other topics such as bilateral economic cooperation and global security will also be addressed.
"No documents are planned to be signed following the summit", Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Russo-American Effort

The meeting will go ahead thanks to Putin and Trump's goodwill, according to Peskov.
"Such mutual political will is in short supply these days", he added. "It seems unlikely, for example, that we will receive an adequate response from the Europeans".

Preparations

US envoy Steve Witkoff's visit to Russia was productive, and his signals paved the way for the Russian and American leaders’ meeting, Peskov said.
The preparations were made in a very short timeframe, but all necessary conditions were met

Previous Putin-Trump Summits

Putin and Trump have met six times in total, but the first full-scale two-hours meeting took place in July 2018 in Helsinki, focusing on bilateral relations, the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran, Syria and Ukraine. They agreed to continue dialogue on security and terrorism and to create a high-level group of Russian and American business leaders. However, the group was not formed.
Putin and Trump last meeting was in June 2019 during the G20 summit in Osaka, lasting over an hour. They focused on improving Russia-US relations and discussed Ukraine, Iran, Syria, and Venezuela. Both sides agreed to continue arms control talks. Putin invited Trump to the 75th anniversary of Victory in World War II in 2020, which Trump initially accepted but later declined.
