"Cooperation with Iran is an important direction for ensuring Russian national interests, aimed at strengthening stability and security in the Caspian region, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, the Persian Gulf, and the Middle and Near East," the Russian government said in a statement about the meeting.The two-day Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting began in the Kyrgyz resort town of Cholpon-Ata on Thursday. The Russian prime minister is attending as part of his official visit to the former Soviet republic. He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, Deputy Head of the Government Office Elmir Tagirov, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin, and Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev.Russia and Iran are aligned on most global and regional issues, the statement said.The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council consists of the heads of government of member states. Its responsibilities include ensuring the implementation and oversight of the Treaty and decisions of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. Iran received observer status in the EAEU in December 2024.

12:01 15.08.2025 (Updated: 12:03 15.08.2025) Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin met with Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref on the sidelines of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Intergovernmental Council meeting in Kyrgyzstan on Friday.
"Cooperation with Iran is an important direction for ensuring Russian national interests, aimed at strengthening stability and security in the Caspian region, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, the Persian Gulf, and the Middle and Near East," the Russian government said in a statement about the meeting.
