1.4 Billion Indians Eagerly Await Putin's Arrival for Annual Summit in December - Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin held a bilateral meeting on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin on Monday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the upcoming India-Russia Annual Summit, set to take place in India, was being keenly awaited by the Indian public.

"1.4 billion Indians are eagerly waiting for your attendance at the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in December," the Indian PM told the Russian President.

"I am very happy to meet you. Meeting you is always memorable and gives us an opportunity to exchange views on a number of issues, the Indian PM said.

He noted that both the countries have been in regular touch, including through high-level meetings.
Modi said that India and Russia have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with each other even during the most difficult of circumstances. "It is a testament to our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership," he said.
The Indian PM said that India-Russia ties not only benefit the peoples of two nations, but were also significant for "global peace, prosperity and stability".
Modi also told Putin that India "welcomed" recent peace efforts to resolve the Ukraine Conflict, a reference to the Alaska Summit.
"We hope that the sides move forward in a constructive manner and achieve an end to the struggle," the PM said, saying that this was the "call of humanity".
In his opening remarks, Putin said that the multifaceted Russia-India ties were developing across all the spheres of cooperation.
"Trade and economic cooperation is generally showing positive dynamics. Tourism exchange is developing. We closely coordinate our efforts in the international arena, including the United Nations, BRICS, the G20, and, of course, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation," the Russian President told the Indian PM.
Putin also highlighted that Russia-India ties was "completely non-partisan" and was being supported by the "vast majority of the people in our countries".
A readout of the leaders' meeting by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that they discussed bilateral cooperation, including in the economic, financial, and energy sectors.

Modi and Putin "expressed satisfaction" with the sustained growth in bilateral ties in these areas, the MEA said.

"​The two leaders reaffirmed their support for further strengthening of the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between the two countries. Prime Minister conveyed to President Putin that he was looking forward to receiving him in India for the 23rd Annual Summit later this year," the Indian readout said.
