Death Toll in Indonesian School Collapse Rises to 3 - Reports

Three people have died following the collapse of Al Khoziny boarding school in the Indonesian city of Sidoarjo, with reports indicating that 91 children may still be trapped under the rubble, Indonesian media reported on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Monday evening during repairs to the school’s concrete roof, which collapsed on the children during prayer time.
According to the reports, the evacuation of students affected by the collapse are ongoing. So far, 100 people have been safely rescued from the debris. Among them, 26 remain hospitalized, 70 have been discharged, one was transferred to a hospital in Mojokerto, and three have been confirmed dead, the reports said.
Indonesia's National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) said that, based on the latest data, dozens of children are still trapped beneath the debris.
Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB’s Data, Information, and Communication Center, said that as of Tuesday evening, 91 individuals were still unaccounted. He said that the joint rescue team is focusing its efforts on saving any survivors. If no survivors are found, heavy machinery will be used to clear debris for recovery of the deceased.
