India’s leading aircraft manufacturer, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is ready to collaborate with Russia on the development of new aircraft models, a company representative has stated.
"I see no issues with that. We consider Russia a great friend. Our relations are strong, and Russian specialists have been of great help to us," the representative told journalists.
HAL and Russia have been cooperating in the aviation sector since the 1960s, including through technology transfer. In particular, HAL has manufactured MiG-21, MiG-27, and Su-30MKI fighter jets under Russian licence.
Earlier, the Director General of the state company Rosoboronexport (part of Rostec), Alexander Mikheev, said that the company is offering New Delhi the supply of the latest fifth-generation Su-57E fighter jets, as well as the organisation of their production in India and assistance in the development of indigenous aircraft of that level.
The Su-57E is a Russian fifth-generation multirole fighter jet developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It is designed to engage all types of aerial, ground, and naval targets. The aircraft features supersonic cruising speed, internal weapon bays, radar-absorbent coating, and state-of-the-art onboard systems.
The Su-57E fighter was first showcased in India at the Aero India 2025 exhibition, where it generated considerable interest.
