Russia is the largest supplier of military equipment to India, 'from submarines to warships to fighter pilots to missiles to tanks to air defence systems', it has provided almost everything to the world's largest democratic state.
The Indian Army hosted four members of the Russian Land Forces from November 26 to 28, during which the two armies exchanged expertise on ‘Integrated Safety and Security of Defence Infrastructure.
"The visit aimed to facilitate expert exchange in the field of Integrated Safety and Security of Defence Infrastructure," the Indian Army said in a statement on Friday.
The delegation's interactions reflected the enduring spirit of defence cooperation, innovation and strategic partnership, further strengthening the long-standing defence ties between India and Russia, it added.
Russian equipment forms the bedrock of India's weaponry, and the two countries have formed joint ventures (JV) in certain areas that have become highly successful over time.

BrahMos Aerospace, which manufactures the widely acclaimed BrahMos missile, the world's fastest supersonic platform of its kind, played a key role during Operation Sindoor, India's counter-terror campaign against Pakistan, earlier this year.

Another JV that is changing the face of the Indian Army is the Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL), which produces the AK-203 rifle in Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, offering the Indian Armed Forces a world-class product for deployment in insurgency-prone areas like Kashmir and the Northeast.
