Employees of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) regularly receive death threats from Ukraine, ZNPP Director Yuri Chernichuk told Sputnik.
"Threats of one kind or another are constantly being made to various employees. They are being subjected to moral pressure. They are threatening to retaliate when, in the opinion of the Ukrainian armed forces, they come to the city and the plant comes under their control. Everyone currently working at the facility is receiving these threats," Chernichuk said.
He added that over time, the plant's personnel had begun to respond calmly to the threats, despite the constant psychological pressure from Ukraine.
ZNPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River near the city of Energodar (Enerhodar). It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe by number of units and installed capacity: six power units with a capacity of one gigawatt each.
In October 2022, the nuclear power plant became Russian property. IAEA experts have been working at the Zaporozhye NPP since September 1, 2022, following the first visit by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to the plant.
Russia previously said that the real source of the threat to the ZNPP and its workers was the reckless shelling of Kiev's armed forces, which attacked the plant's infrastructure and its satellite town of Energodar almost daily.
