India’s assumption of the BRICS chairmanship, handed over by Brazil in December 2025 at the 4th Sherpas Meeting, marks a strategic moment for New Delhi to steer agenda-setting in the expanded BRICS bloc.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Tuesday unveiled the official logo, theme, and dedicated website for the country's 2026 presidency that will anchor the group’s communication and event calendar for the year.
The BRICS grouping, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa and now expanded to include nations such as Egypt, Indonesia, the UAE, and others, faces a global context marked by economic uncertainties and geopolitical tensions.
With this year’s theme of "Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability", India’s leadership aims at championing inclusive development, enhancing cooperation on trade and technology, and reinforcing the voices of the Global South in global governance forums.
The newly unveiled logo blends elements of tradition and modernity, featuring petals in the colours of all BRICS member countries to symbolize unity in diversity and a collective sense of purpose.
India's presidency, which officially began on January 1, 2026, following Brazil's handover, marks the first time the country leads the expanded format.
As BRICS continues to evolve as a key force in the multipolar world, India's tenure is expected to advance South-South cooperation, economic connectivity, and sustainable development goals, building on past presidencies in 2016 and 2021.
