Iran Was Never Threat to America: Former Indian Vice President
19:58 21.03.2026 (Updated: 19:59 21.03.2026) In an exclusive interview with Sputnik India, former Indian Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari shared his views on the current situation in the Middle East. Ansari emphasized that Iran has never posed any real threat to America.
"Day by day it's coming out that American opinion was never clear-cut on this subject. I heard last night's testimony by Tulsi Gabbard. It was clear there was no threat to America. So many other people have said it," Ansari said.
He firmly stated that Iran has every right to self-defense.
"Iran has simply responded to it. To that situation. Americans were using their bases to attack Iran. And they have responded by attacking the bases. I don't see anything wrong with that," he said.
Highlighting the long‑standing ties between the two nations, the former Vice President noted that India and Iran have shared close cultural and diplomatic connections for centuries, rooted in deep historical interactions that extend far beyond modern politics.
"The most recent exchange of views between the two governments in relation to the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz shows that there is a relationship which both countries care for. The Iranians made an exception for us. We made a request, they responded to it," Ansari said.
