Russian Embassy in Turkey Boosts Security Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
ANKARA (Sputnik) - The Russian Embassy in Turkey is taking security measures amid the escalation in the Middle East, the embassy told Sputnik.
Earlier, the embassy told Sputnik that the situation in the Middle East necessitated strengthening security measures at Russian diplomatic missions in the region.
"With regard to Russian diplomatic missions abroad, such measures are being fully implemented in the Republic of Turkey," the Russian diplomatic mission in Ankara said when asked about security measures amid the situation in the Middle East.
On February 28, the United States and Israel began striking targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing civilian deaths and destruction. Iran carried out retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, as well as on US military facilities in the Middle East.
On Saturday, Iran and the US began talks in Islamabad after US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that he had reached an agreement with Tehran on a two-week ceasefire. On Sunday morning, the head of the US delegation, Vice President J.D. Vance, announced that Iran and the US had failed to reach an agreement during protracted negotiations and that the US delegation would return home without a deal. Trump later announced that the US would blockade all vessels attempting to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz. He also instructed the US Navy to track and intercept all vessels that paid Iran to pass through the strait.
