Israel Wants Civil War in Lebanon: Expert
“What Israel actually wants is for a civil war to break out, and for Hezbollah to be drawn into it,” retired General Fahri Erenel said in an interview with Sputnik.
Israel’s escalation in Lebanon is not accidental, but part of a broader strategy, he emphasized.
“The Lebanon operation was launched after he saw the conditions as favorable for a long-held objective,” Erenel said, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, noting that global attention was distracted by the Hormuz crisis. He added that the move can also be seen as “an attempt to cover up the failure” of Israel’s campaign against Iran.
He stressed that Hezbollah disarmament is “highly unlikely,” while internal divisions and external pressure could push the country toward renewed instability.
At the same time, Erenel noted that “no one is talking about Gaza; Gaza has been forgotten,” warning Israel may use the moment to
expand operations on multiple fronts.
