Russia will help Afghanistan build the capacity of Afghan medical professionals and improve laboratory standards, said Russian Ambassador to Kabul Dmitry Zhirnov during a meeting with Afghan Minister of Public Health Noor Jalal Jalali on Wednusday.
The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation and improving the capacity of Afghan medical professionals—particularly in cancer treatment and cardiology, according to the Afghan Ministry of Health.
Key areas of cooperation:
Training & Capacity Building: Russia will train Afghan specialists in oncology, cardiology, and other priority medical fields.
Laboratory Upgrades: Collaboration to raise laboratory standards and improve diagnostic capabilities nationwide.
Medical Delegation Visit: Russia will facilitate an Afghan health delegation’s visit to Russia for hands-on experience sharing.
Affordable Medicines: Support for importing high-quality Russian medicines at reasonable prices, improving drug availability in Afghanistan.
Pharmaceutical Investment: Plans to stimulate Russian investment in Afghanistan’s pharmaceutical production sector.
Minister Jalali emphasized the significance of expanding cooperation, noting that Afghanistan’s positive relations with Russia are already benefiting its healthcare system. He expressed interest in leveraging Russian expertise to enhance national medical standards.
Ambassador Zhirnov reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to assist, stating that Moscow is committed to improving Afghan laboratory systems and building the skills of Afghan doctors. He also confirmed support for organizing the Afghan delegation visit to Russia.
