Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Describes Visits by Witkoff, Kushner as Constructive
Deputy head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Pankin said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the trips of US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow contribute to the settlement on Ukraine, allowing for breaking the situation into constituent parts.
"Their arrivals, undoubtedly, help, since these are very lengthy conversations, and, judging by everything, frank, they allow to break the situation into constituent parts, to understand where what is, how it can advance, what dependencies exist," Pankin said when asked about his view of the mediators' visits.
He emphasized that the Russian side has always shown readiness for a constructive diplomatic settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
"Although you have heard the reservations which the president [Vladimir Putin] made, that if there is not a diplomatic solution, there will be other solutions, because simply so the situation cannot be left hanging for a long time," Pankin concluded.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov earlier mentioned that the Ukrainian settlement would stand in place even after carrying out dozens of rounds of negotiations without the withdrawal by Kiev of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbas. He also noted that Kiev realizes the necessity of withdrawal of troops from the territory of Donbas and that sooner or later they all will do it.
Russia has repeatedly stated that it is ready to go along the path of searching for a negotiating solution to the Ukrainian crisis, relying on the understandings achieved by the presidents of Russia and the US at the summit in Alaska, including the elimination of the root causes of the conflict in the form of threats to the national security of Russia.
