India supports a reform of the United Nations and the inclusion of Asian, African and Latin American nations in the UN Security Council, Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Friday.
"Without meaningful reform, including expansion in both permanent and non-permanent categories, the effectiveness and credibility of the UN will remain constrained… Representation of Asia, Africa, and Latin America is essential," Jaishankar said.
A reform of the UN and its subsidiary bodies remains a central task, and, despite a significant increase in the organization's membership and the expansion of its responsibilities, key institutions, particularly the Security Council, no longer reflect modern realities, Jaishankar added.
New Delhi consistently advocates for a form of multipolarity that reflects current global realities and the aspirations of developing and emerging-market countries, the Indian foreign minister added.
