ASTANA (Sputnik) - China and Kazakhstan will jointly establish a grain trading platform, the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry said on Thursday.
Liu Huanxin, head of China's National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration (NAFRA), held talks with Kazakh Deputy Agriculture Minister Yermek Kenzhekhanuly to discuss the expansion of mutual trade in agricultural products and the implementation of investment projects, the ministry said.
"Following the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a joint Chinese-Kazakh grain trading platform. The project is being implemented in accordance with the China-Central Asia Action Plan under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)," the statement read.
Special attention at the meeting was paid to the prospects of concluding long-term contracts for the supply of grain and oilseeds, the creation of logistics hubs and "dry ports," as well as the exchange of technologies for the storage and processing of agricultural products, it said.
In 2025, bilateral agricultural trade increased by 36.8% to $1.97 billion, the ministry said. In the first quarter of 2026, the volume rose by 61.7% to $697 million.
Kazakhstan's agricultural exports to China increased by 35.3% to $1.43 billion in 2025, the ministry added. Feed, vegetable oils, flax and sunflower seeds, and rapeseed oil form the basis of supplies. In the first three months of 2026, exports surged by 82.4% to $550 million.
