South Africa has called for greater respect for national sovereignty and stronger cooperation among countries of the Global South, arguing that the international system must be based on equality, multilateralism and mutual respect.
South Arica's foreign policy remains rooted in respect for international law, human rights, national sovereignty and the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, South Africa's Deputy Foreign Minister Thandi Moraka, told Sputnik India.
In the full interview, Moraka discusses BRICS, reform of global financial institutions, Africa's economic future, South Africa–India trade, the rise of the Global South and Pretoria's vision for an emerging multipolar world. Watch the complete conversation for the full discussion.
Moraka urged Western powers to respect the sovereignty of all nations and work through multilateral institutions to promote peace and stability. She argued that countries should cooperate to build a more inclusive international order based on dialogue rather than confrontation.

"We want to urge even those, Western powers to really, look at, revisiting the issue of undermining the sovereignty of other member states because, for a state to be in place, you must know that there are processes that are leading up to that member state to be put in place," Moraka told Sputnik India.

The deputy minister also highlighted South Africa's growing cooperation with India through platforms such as BRICS, the G20 and other multilateral forums. Amid what she described as an increasingly uncertain global environment, Moraka said countries of the Global South must work together to advance their own development priorities and strengthen their collective voice on the world stage.
Economic cooperation featured prominently in her remarks. Moraka described India as a strategic partner and praised its economic development achievements. She pointed to India's vast market and growing global influence as reasons for expanding trade and investment ties between the two countries.
