Russian companies had been granted access to manage industrial production facilities in Cuba in April 2026. However, Russian involvement in Cuba's energy and industrial sectors is not new — they have participated in joint ventures, oil and gas projects, power plant upgrades, and industrial investments for years, with notable projects dating back to at least 2009–2010 and expanding significantly since 2023.The 2026 SPIEF is taking place in the western Russian city of St. Petersburg from June 3-6.

Cuba Eyes New Financial Institutions to Support Russian Business: Senior Official
ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) - Cuba is considering creating financial and banking institutions to assist Russian business operating on the Caribbean island, Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Oscar Perez-Oliva Fraga said on Thursday.
"We believe that it is necessary to create financial and banking institutions in Cuba that will be able to provide direct assistance to Russian businesses," Perez-Oliva Fraga said during the Russia-Cuba business dialogue at the 2026 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
Russian companies had been granted access to manage industrial production facilities in Cuba in April 2026.
