Cooperation between India and the United States does not pose difficulties for Russia-India relations, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.

"You said India's cooperation with the United States creates difficulties in India's relations with Russia. There is nothing of the sort, dear colleague. We are glad that India is developing relations with all countries," Putin said during a meeting with the heads of international news agencies at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

The US is seeking to exert pressure on India on certain issues, including aspects of its cooperation with Russia, he said.
"It seems to me that everyone has long understood that putting pressure on [Indian] Prime Minister Modi, who heads a country of 1.5 billion people, is useless. Moreover, it harms international relations and bilateral relations, regardless of where such pressure comes from," the Russian president said.
Putin added that Russia will be able to reach agreements with both India and the US.
Russia views India as a reliable partner and intends to continue developing relations with it, he said.
"This is a particularly privileged strategic partnership," Putin said during a meeting with the heads of international news agencies at the 2026 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), referring to relations between Russia and India.
Russia and India continue to build the Kudankulam nuclear power plant, while Moscow anticipates new joint projects in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy, the Russian president said.
"We have a lot of work to do together. We are confident that we will reach $100 billion in trade turnover in the coming years. Currently, it's around $60-58 billion. But we have all the prerequisites to work more actively and achieve more ambitious goals," Putin said at a meeting with heads of international news agencies at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is taking place from June 3 to 6.
