Unfriendly States Attempting to Disrupt Russia–Africa Summit
13:45 04.06.2026 (Updated: 14:52 05.06.2026) Certain “unfriendly countries” are attempting to interfere with upcoming Russia–Africa initiatives, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated during a briefing held on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
External actors are seeking to undermine Russia’s engagement with African states and disrupt planned multilateral events, she stressed.
“Of course, this is not just an irritant for them—they view it as a challenge,” Zakharova said, adding that some countries believe they should have exclusive influence over activities on the African continent.
Her comments come ahead of the third Russia–Africa Summit, scheduled to take place in Moscow on October 28–29. The forum is expected to bring together representatives from Russia and multiple African states to discuss political, economic, and development cooperation.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is running from June 3 to June 6 and serves as one of Russia’s key platforms for international economic dialogue.
